You can easily back up your contacts from a lost or broken phone or you can transfer your contacts to your new iPhone. You can use iCloud or iTunes to back up your contacts and synchronize your contacts on your computer. Your contact list is one of the important things on your iPhone. Using iTunes                       

The contacts from an iPhone will back up default by iTunes, if you have disabled it.  Steps to be followed for back up process are:

  1. Download and install iTunes software on your desktop.
  2. It will launch automatically when you connect your iPhone.
  3. Select your phone model at the top of the iTunes window.
  4. If you’re connecting your device for the first time you may have to tap “Trust” on your iPhone’s screen. It will take a moment to appear.

Synchronize your contacts with your mail program to edit and see all of them. Make sure it will not sync with iCloud.

  1. Click on “Info” tab in the left side bar.
  2. Select your mail program and check the “sync contacts” box.
  3. Select the groups that you want to sync.
  4. Start the sync by clicking on ‘Apply” button.
  5. A manual backup with iTunes will stores that backup on the local computer.

Using iCloud

If you select iCloud as your backup key, your contacts will be synced and backed up to iCloud automatically. This is done when iCloud is turned on by default. On your iPhone open the Settings app and click “iCloud” option. Make backup by following the below steps.

  1. Log in with your Apple ID. If you don’t have an ID, “create a new Apple ID” and follow the prompts.
  2. Click “contacts” slider ON. This will backup all of your iPhone contacts from contacts app to your iCloud storage.
  3. Tap on “Storage & Backup” by scrolling down.
  4. Now click on “Back up Now”.

The great thing in this app is that contacts are saved as vCard files in this app. If the vCard is reopened; it will save just like the original, with no formatting issues. Open the app and click on the Backup button. It will backup all the available contacts on your iPhone.
