Using the network excessively could have negative consequences for mental health, according to the conclusions of a group of researchers from McMaster University, Canada. The study carried out with university students with Internet addiction revealed that they could show more symptoms of depression and anxiety, problems with planning and time management, as well as symptoms of ADHD.
The researchers evaluated Internet addiction using the ‘Internet Addiction Test’ (IAT), which is the standard test used to measure over-dependence on the Internet. They also used a more recent scale designed by themselves and based on updated addiction criteria.
Professor Van Ameringen’s group from McMaster University in Canada interviewed 254 students and correlated Internet use with their mental health and general well-being. A total of 33 students met the selection criteria for inclusion in the IAT trial, but 107 students met the problematic Internet use requirements using the screening tool designed by Van Ameringen and his colleagues.
The researchers were concerned that the IAT questionnaire might not reflect modern Internet use issues or show false positives for people who were simply using the Internet but were not overly dependent on the network. The research team also conducted a series of self-evaluation trials to see the results of Internet addicts compared to others in analyzes on issues such as symptoms of depression and anxiety, impulsivity, inattention, and executive functioning as well.
It can be concluded that the Internet is responsible for increasing addictions and some mental / psychological disorders. The internet, if not controlled, can be detrimental to the lives of millions of people in the world, especially children who do not yet understand the importance of controlling themselves in accessing the Internet.
The times when the internet was only accessed by cell phone seem to be behind us. The modernization of cellular devices and the expansion of the mobile network have made people switch from big screens to small screens. Not only were adults affected by this change, but so were children and adolescents. According to a research, more than 90% of young people between 9 and 17 years old have cell phones.
Faced with this new reality, parents found a new challenge: to know and deal with the dangers of the internet. In addition to being exposed to harmful people and content, little ones have also spent a lot of time browsing. Therefore, today’s cell phone is occupying the place that the video game had a few years ago, helping to distract the younger ones. Because of the parents’ need to know what their children are doing online, helping them to reduce their browsing time, FamiSafe was born. The parental control application has a number of features to assist families in the digital age.
How FamiSafe works
To ensure safety, FamiSafe has a locator, which lets you know if your child is really where he should be. Parents can also receive notification whenever their child’s device contains suspicious content, such as pornography or texts that indicate virtual harassment. Upon realizing these situations, the person in charge can block what is harmful. What’s more, the family can still block some cell phone activities so that the child can study and sleep better. As young people tend to spend a lot of time on mobile devices, using a tool for this may be the ideal solution.
The FamiSafe app can be installed on iOS and Android devices. Just download the tool and put it on the cell phone of the parents and the young person. Then, just register a member account. From then on, the family will be able to configure the tool as they wish, preventing the child from becoming addicted to the device and / or exposing themselves to risks. Especially to the YouTube. Why?
YouTube over the years has become one of the platforms most used by young people, since in turn, consumption habits have been modified. One of the most important factors for which said platform has increased its visits, downloads, etc., is due to the appearance of the so-called “YouTubers”, who are not limited to only uploading videos on a specific topic, likewise, the arrival of the “reviewers” who make videos outlining mostly products that cause great impact at the time of their launch.
Videos on YouTube are not only seen as entertainment, but as an accessible content offer on the go, as it meets the needs of users beyond just have fun and “hang out”. At the same time, there are educational, relaxing videos, tutorials, among others, that keep young people connected with society in general and, of course, with their peers. Also, this has led young people to consume more content on said digital platform than on television, regardless of whether it is open or paid TV.
YouTube is clearly a big influence and for most people is the main face of the global online industry. More than one billion people access YouTube every day, making it one of the three most accessed sites in the world. This certainly encourages or even emphasizes the importance of knowledge about how to put parental controls on YouTube.
Hopefully by reading this article you can understand the importance of control on the Internet, especially YouTube and the reasons why Famisafe is needed.
